It is not until 1850 - 1870 that the open space around the Cathedral -Pey Berland square- was cleared. This square took its name from the archbishop of Bordeaux Pey Berland, from 1430 to 1458.
Pope Martin V had confirmed his nomination as archbishop for the "purity of his manners, his taste for spiritual things, and its knowledge of the worldly affaires".
He also orderd to build the steeple away from the Cathedral, between 1440 and 1460.

You are in the center of Bordeaux in front of the St. Andrew's Cathedral, the townhall (Hôtel de ville),the "Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature" and close to the "Palais de Justice". An ideal location 100 meters away from the tram!

"This is a lovely apartment. Very well equipped kitchen and bathroom, and with a good sized, comfortable bed and a roomy but cosy sitting area. Everything was very clean and in excellent condition. The location is perfect - right in the very centre of town, so you can easily walk to wherever you want to go. If you do want a ride, the tram stop is just outside, and it was easy to catch the airport bus from nearby at the end of our stay. There are cafés downstairs in the square and the cathedral is right outside. There is a large supermarket (Monoprix) just around the corner and Paul’s bakery with wonderful bread and cakes on offer. It feels safe and secure in the apartment, which we appreciated as two female travellers. We felt welcome in Bordeaux and the people from the flat letting company were delightful and kind. They provided good information about many aspects of Bordeaux and let us leave our luggage with them in their office on our final day, so that we could make the most of the time before our evening flight. I would wholeheartedly recommend this flat as an excellent place to stay"
