A bit of history:
In the middle of the 12th century, the Templars had built a fortified convent and church here against the city wall. When the convent was sold as national property during the Revolution, the extension of the street towards the Cours de l'Intendance was considered.
On a plan dated Prairial year XIII, it bears the name of Vergniaud, but soon after (1804) it receives in its entirety the name of rue du Temple. The chapel of the Templars, known by drawings and described by M. de Marquessac, was destroyed at the end of the 19th century.
