A little bit of History:

In 1383, the Carthusian monks of Vauclaire in Périgord, driven out of their monastery by war, found refuge in Bordeaux. They settled in the north of the city, outside the walls, near the Garonne. Their Gascon name of chartros remained attached to the vast Chartrons district.
